Deborah J. Levasseur, Ph.D.

Dr. Levasseur is a Clinical Psychologist (licensed in NH and NY) who received her M.A. and Ph.D. at the State University of New York at Albany. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Behavioral Medicine and Anxiety Disorders Clinics at Dartmouth Medical School and Predoctoral Internship within the Boston VA /Tufts New England Medical Centers Psychology Internship Consortium. Throughout her years of training and professional practice, Dr. Levasseur has specialized in the assessment and treatment of anxiety and stress-related disorders. She has extensive experience working with individuals diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, panic disorder with agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, and chronic health problems. Prior to initiating private practice, she served as Staff Psychologist within the integrated primary care and interdisciplinary pain management clinics of the Stratton VAMC, Albany, NY.

As Staff Psychologist and clinical team member of The Counseling Center, she practices in Nashua and at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Family Medical Practice location in Merrimack where she serves outpatients ages 18-65+. She offers general assessment and psychotherapy services and Behavioral Medicine (Clinical Health Psychology) consultation with a special focus on pain management and motivational interviewing interventions targeting behavioral and lifestyle change. Additional areas of treatment expertise include stress, anger, and mood management; hypertension, diabetes, arthritis, and weight management; recovery from heart attacks; coping with cancer and auto-immune disease; preparing for and coping with surgical procedures such as organ transplantation and gastric bypass; managing insomnia and other sleep disturbances, etc. Dr. Levasseur also enjoys working with individuals interested in assertiveness communication skills building and learning improved ways of negotiating stressful life transitions (e.g., personal, occupational, relationship).

Dr. Levasseur's Cognitive-Behavioral theoretical orientation and approach to psychotherapy focuses on solution-focused methods to resolving symptoms and problems and developing personal goals for change and self-acceptance. She maintains a special interest in the practice of positive psychology which highlights individuals' strengths vs. deficits and mind-body holism and wellness. She believes that every person is capable of, and responsible for, personal behavioral change and balance.
