Dr. Brahms earned his BA degree, majoring in psychology,
from Queens College, City University of N.Y. He then worked
for two years as a field caseworker before entering the MSW
program at State University of N.Y. at Albany. After graduation
he returned to New York City and was employed by Brooklyn
Family Court, New York City to do long term preventive
counseling with at risk families. After two years of experience,
Dr. Brahms moved to the New England area and worked at a
community mental health center treating a wide range of
mental health problems. It was during this 7-year period that
he obtained specialized training in chemical dependency
treatment and addictions. In 1984, Dr. Brahms joined Matthew
Thornton Health Plan HMO, now Hitchcock Clinic, a medical
multi-specialty group practice in Nashua, NH. Also during his
tenure at the medical group, he enrolled in the doctoral
program at Simmons College, Boston, MA. where he obtained
his Ph.D. in 1991. He has been in full-time private practice
since January 1999, treating adolescents, couples, and adults.
